Nearly two years ago, the Stonegate/Merriam Mountains General Plan Amendment was rejected by the Board of Supervisors, thanks to a decade of tireless effort by the local community to defeat this project. But now, the developers are back AGAIN, trying to resurrect this project with a back door proposal to increase the density. As part of the General Plan Update, they are asking for a density increase to build nearly 2,200 new homes on the property, more than 25 times the currently allowed 82 homes!

On January 10, 2012, the Board of Supervisors voted 3-2 to have staff further explore the Merriam Mountains density increase. Another public hearing will be held on this issue in the future. Please stay tuned to find out when the next meeting will be, so we can stop Merriam Mountains again!

Merriam Mountains is a massive development proposed for 2,327 acres in the predominantly rural and agricultural area north of Deer Springs Road and just west of Interstate 15 in northern San Diego County.

In opposition to this proposed development, this site has been created by the Citizens Against Stonegate Traffic (CAST) - a coalition of San Diego County residents concerned with the increased traffic impacts from this project on area roads and freeways, including Interstate 15 and State Route 78.

CAST is specifically concerned with the significant traffic impacts throughout the County that would result from this development, in addition to negative impacts to local infrastructure, fire safety, water supply, local schools and the environment. We hope to reach out to all San Diego County residents and urge you to join us in our effort to stop the Merriam Mountains project from further congesting our County's roads and freeways and disrupting the quality of life in our communities.
