Arguments Against - Compounds Traffic Congestion
Every day, traffic throughout San Diego
County continues to worsen. If approved,
the Merriam Mountains project will add
more than 35,000 daily trips to our roads
and freeways and will make our traffic
worse, not only on area roads, but on
Interstate 15 and State Route 78 as well.
No amount of local road widening will fix
this added congestion.
The massive development project would
bring an additional 7,600 residents to
local roadways in and around this rural community and would
result in continuous on-and off-site construction, generating
significant effects on traffic in the area.
| Traffic generated by the Merriam Mountains project threatens our
community in the following ways: |
 |
Even after Deer Springs Road has been widened to six lanes, extreme traffic
congestion will continue to clog local roadways. |
 |
There is no guarantee that taxpayer money won't be used to fund mitigation to
area roadways. |
 |
Peak hour traffic delays will dramatically increase around the area, including
those along the freeway ramps on I-15 at Deer Springs Road and on SR78 at
Twin Oaks Valley Road. |
 |
Massive construction will not only clog local streets, but will result in significant
noise and air quality impacts. |
 |
A once tranquil, scenic and rural setting will become hectic, overcrowded and
congested. |
 |
The project is one of nearly a dozen proposed in the area that will contribute
thousands of cars to our already packed roadways. |
