No, no, no on Merriam Mountains

North County Times: Letter to the Editor - 2/3/2010

Once again, I must call into question the prevaricated logic of another letter from Wayne Clark justifying a "yes" vote on the Merriam Mountains project (Jan. 31). Mr. Clark states that the construction at Welk Resort creates "No Dust! No Noise! No interference to golfers!" Wow, has he ever heard the term "apples and oranges"?

He is talking about temporary resort guests and golfers who are on the course for maybe three to four hours while near the building of some three-story condominiums? The full-time residents of this entire area — north, south, east and west of Deer Springs — will most certainly be affected by the noise and dust created by the ill-advised Merriam Mountains project.

His example is minuscule compared with that of Merriam Mountains. I would suggest that the leveling of 2,600-plus acres of rugged terrain containing vast amounts of gigantic boulders in order to build 2,600-plus new homes and businesses is just a wee bit larger than the Welk Resort example.

Clark's logic is preposterous! Not to mention, the not-so-insignificant matter of inevitable death and displacement of untold wildlife, along with forever changing the landscape of this amazing rural area, and not in a good way.
